A Little Springy Inspiration

I've been scouring some of my favorite blogs and magazines for a little springtime inspiration. I found so much inspiration, and honestly, it can be overwhelming, you know what I mean? I want our home to have a fresh springy vibe, but I don't want to break the bank to make it happen. Today I'm going to share with you a few of my faves, prepare to be inspired!

I LOVE this wreath. The wreath form and moss can be be found at the dollar store and the flowers are an easy project with scrap fabric. Beautiful and frugal- perfect.

This is a theme you're going to see lots here in my inspiration photos- bringing the outside in. Anytime I can grab a few branches and bring them in, instant springtime in the house.

Same here, bring the outside in, and how cute is this, a new use for some old galoshes.

I love collecting old plates that I find at thrift stores and flea markets. How about gathering all the springy blossoming ones, and hang them all together.

I love the chalkboards I have in our home and I look forward to changing them seasonally. If you don't have a ready made board, a can of chalkboard spray paint will turn any old object into a beautiful chalkboard.

And again, bring the outside inside. Fresh, live greenery breathes new life into your home.

COLOR. How about adding the unexpected to freshen up your space? I collect these tissue paper balls at our local super-store for only $.99. They have them seasonally in different colors. Put them in a grouping for instant fun and color in any room.

So what do you think? Hope I've inspired you to bring a little spring into your homes.  I think I'm going to start right now by going outside and clipping a few sprouting branches and bringing them inside. So fresh and so simple.

Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue {hello spring}

As I sit here all cozy and warm in front of the fire, my mind has drifted far, far away. Thoughts of warmer days and gardens are dancing in my head. We've had a few warm days here and there and that was all it took, all it took to shift my mind to thoughts of spring.

Last weekend, my husband helped me with a little work in the flower gardens out front. This garden area has been an outright battle front for a couple of years now. It's us against the free ranging chickens, the verdict is still out y'all, but I think we're closing in on a successful plan of attack. Biggest problem, MULCH. The chickens scratch it, kick it and it flies too and fro. I've been doing lots of research and I'm determined that we can at least call a truce! I pulled back out my favorite book, Free Range Chicken Gardens. Oh how I love this book! I get all giddy just thumbing through the pages. It's an excellent resource for all free range chicken owners.

This morning I awoke really early and started looking for some lovely heirloom seeds to order online. I found the sweetest little website and ordered several varieties from them. I've been dreaming of nasturtiums and sweet peas, they had them both and I was thrilled. So the plan is to start them indoors and then transfer them out when there's no longer a danger of frost. I can hardly wait!

Also, on my to-do list, basement clean up. Stuff  has taken over and no longer do I have any control down there. It's just an old, unfinished, cinder block basement, now, but thanks to this sweet lady and this post, it's about to be so much more! She kicked my rear into gear, and mercy I needed that. She's done it on more than one occasion mind you! That's what I love so much about my little blogging community. Sometimes we girls need a push in the right direction, just a little motivation to get us going. I'm honored to be a part of such an awesome community of uber talented women, that so, so, often, get me moving!

That's me at the moment, what's going on in your little neck of the woods? Do tell............

Mornings On The Porch

Oh how my soul has longed for these mornings. We are having an unusually warm week here and this morning, well, this morning was a 'coffee on the porch'  morning. My favorite.

I've missed these so. It's the birthday week of our youngest and he's already gotten a couple of gifts. He couldn't wait to try out his remote controlled car.

He's my early bird. Mornings and Matthew are one. Me, not so much, but his passion for the arrival of each new day is nothing short of inspiring.

Of course, our mornings involve lots of little chickens. I wouldn't change a thing.

SUNSHINE

It's sad that I'm so excited about the sunshine, but we've seen it so little lately, that it's a HUGE thing when it graces us with it's awesome presence. Oh sunshine, we've missed you so!

A few days back, out it came and out we went. I literally felt like our cat because I had this overwhelming desire to plop myself in a spot of sun and roll around in it's warmth, letting it's rays bathe over every inch of my skin. Yes....... I have been cooped up inside way too long. I couldn't get enough.

I was also grateful that these kiddos were able to get outside and run and stretch and play on such a warm day. Oh, I've really missed that!

My favorite part this time of year is the evening froggy serenade. We have a creek running down one side of our property filled with little froggies in early spring. I open the windows wide and sit in bed and listen to their beautiful melody. That sound means that spring is fast approaching! I couldn't be happier.

Dare I Say Spring?

I've been so busy loving on winter that I almost hate to see it end. As sad and dysfunctional as this may sound, I really can't get my 'spring on' until Shannan posts something on her blog about spring's arrival. Yep, I admit it, I regularly stalk her blog for inspiration. She's cool though- I hope she doesn't mind, shhhh, don't tell her.

I kept thinking, I've got to start shopping the house soon and spring things up a little, but nothing, I wasn't feeling it, that is until Shannan put a little bit of eye candy on her blog and then, I started to feel a little twinge of wanting to lighten and brighten a bit. It started as a little twinge way down low and as I perused the pictures of her living room on her blog, the little twinge slowly began to grow into a little flutter, and then into an all out, "I think this house could use some fresh flowers"

Nothing puts me in the springy mood faster than walking into our tiny local florist on our downtown square and taking in a huge sniff of that fresh floral air. You know that fresh flower smell- honey, it's right up there with fresh baked bread. Heavenly.

I also throw anything else fresh and green into the mix.........

This is just a totally random picture, but this cabinet always makes me smile.......

How about y'all- are y'all getting the urge to welcome spring into your home?

A Boy And His Kite

It was a crazy windy day here yesterday. Matt took a break from gushing over ALL his new baby chicks to head out into the pasture to fly his kite. What a gorgeous afternoon it was. Perfect kite flying weather!

{just ignore his new stitches and all his missing teeth - he's just a ruff and tumble kind of guy!}

Daddy helped a little with the direction, but mostly Matt handled it all on his own.

While in the pasture, I couldn't help but notice all the beautiful wildflowers. So many different sizes and colors solemnly blowing in the wind.

{This is Chi-Chi, one of our six dogs - house dogs - don't judge now -  we're just pet people, ok?}

I just love these late spring afternoons. I hope you all have a beauty-filled weekend in your little corner of the world and I'll see you next week!

A Day in the Life

Homeschooling your kids is a new adventure everyday. Some days are pretty slow, some are packed to capacity with errands and cooking and cleaning, etc, etc. But around here we try to ....

Climb trees,

and more trees.

We do a little of this {yes, little dude's feet ARE always that filthy :)}, and......

.... LOTS of this!

We LOVE on our landlord's cows.....

Alot!

She's sooooo precious!

Even our furry babies are lovin' this spring weather! So there you have it, a day in this crazy life of ours. I hope you are all enjoying your spring too.
