Cabin Inspired Boy's Bedroom

I think I mentioned a little while back that the kids' rooms were getting a little sprucing up. I'm here to say that we're finally done! Whew! Matthew wanted me to share his room first, so here we go......

Not too terribly much changed in his room {click here to see Matthew's room before} , but it was more of a tweaking to get a true cabin feel.  It was outdoorsy already, but I wanted to give it a strong winter cabin vibe.

I added a buffalo check duvet, some cabin inspired pillows and we repainted his bedside file cabinet a rich red. Throw in a vintage paddle, some deer antlers, a lantern, and I called it a day. I smile every time I walk by his room, and Matthew loves it, success! All the added pieces were on sale at Pottery Barn Kids, and just in case you're working on freshening up your boy's room, I listed my sources below.

Stay tuned, next Monday I'll be posting the girl's shared room. They were ready to take it from fun and color-full to..............well, you'll just have to wait until next week for that!

Amy

Woodland Themed Boy's Room

And moving right along, we've been changing things up a little in Matt's room. A couple of weeks ago, our 'Land of Nod' catalog came in the mail and Matthew and I both LOVED their woodland themed boy's room and I quickly went to work finding free and super thrifty things I could do in his room to give it a woodsy feel on the cheap! Does our room look just like the one in the 'Land of Nod' catalog, heck no, but their picture gave us lots of inspiration ideas that we could turn into our very own woodland room. Here's what we came up with:

1. Make your own faux sheepskin rug! Tutorial for that coming this Friday on the blog! {$20 for a 4x6 size rug}
2. Buy some plaid flannel to make a throw pillow for the bed {$3}

3. Make pine cone garlands out of pine cones found on our nature walks {free}

4. Bring in a quilt from another room to layer on his bed {free}
5. Cut some evergreen branches and put in a pot for a woodsy feel {free}

6. Bring in a large log to use as a bedside table {free}

7. Have kids make some art for the walls {free}

Grand Total:
$23

And the best part, besides the dirt cheap cost, momma and boy, both happy! This DIY rug is so cool because it can be thrown right in the wash when needed. Love that! Remember to come back Friday for the easy tutorial on making your own throw rug out of any kind of fur!

Decorating should be FUN! Even if you're working with a humble budget, you can still fancy up your home! Don't ever let limited funds stop you from making your house your own!
