Cultivating Gratitude

As I'm aging, I've come to realize more and more that growing my gratitude takes intentional action. It is a well tended seed that takes root and then flourishes over time. It asks that you see this life of yours differently, as if each and every moment throughout your day is s-l-o-w-e-d, and savored. It means that you acknowledge that your actions are leaving a footprint and that it matters. It requires you to love deeply and freely. It asks that you step back and see the rewards as they gather around your ankles at the end of the day.

It's a quilt on the clothes line, farm raised eggs, gathering friends and loved ones in your home, it's cuddling around a campfire, it's loving deeply and passionately. It's eyes wide open. It's starting each morning with a thank you aimed at the heavens.

The beauty of this thing, gratitude, is how it changes all the corners of your life in time, and so unexpectedly. Yes, there are rewards for a grateful heart. Don't dare for a moment think that I've perfected my grateful spirit, I'm just like you, a work in progress each and every day. But I am intentionally  seeking a grateful heart every single day, and oh the difference that makes.

How do you grow your gratitude?
