Yummy Cheddar Bread

The other day as I strolled through our local farmer's market, I had my eye on their many  fresh baked breads and cakes. Seeing their beautiful displays really got me wanting to head home and do some baking! There's something about the Fall season that totally turns me on to baking...... apples, pumpkins, cranberries, so many options!

I sat down at the computer and quickly began researching lots of breads, both sweet and not, that could be made as loaves. I just love making loaves because they are the perfect easy bread for your own family or for gifting. I tell you, nothing's sweeter than a little loaf of bread wrapped up and tied with a little baker's twine bow, love it!

I discovered the most awesome recipes for lots of loaves and I'm going to share them with y'all starting with a delicious Cheddar Loaf. I had made chili con carne for dinner and man, this cheddar bread was delicious served up on the side. It would be soooooo good for a breakfast bread too! Enjoy friends...........

Cheddar Bread

2 cups flour
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 cup cold butter cubed
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg beaten
1 cup milk

Pre-heat oven to 400*.  Mix dry ingredients in medium bowl then cut in cubed butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles course crumbs. Stir in the cheese then add egg and milk. Mix just until moistened.

Spoon into greased and floured 9x5 inch loaf pan. Bake 40 to 45 minutes until tooth pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 5 minutes then remove to cooling rack to cool completely.

Enjoy immediately or package in a sealed plastic bag, perfect for gifting.

We are heading to the mountains for a little camping adventure this weekend and I'm planning on basking in the 47 degree early morning temps. Doesn't that sound unbelievably wonderful? Morning coffee and 47 degrees...... be still my heart! See y'all next week!
