A Springy Little Porch

Now that I'm feeling a little spring in my step, it was time to freshen up the front porch a little. Any of you that live in a small house like ours, knows that your porches are 'outside rooms'. Our front porch gets lots of lounging from now till November and I totally adore it!

My favorite part is this little lamp. I had wanted to make a shade like this for so long, and once I started putting things together on the porch, I knew my dream lamp would feel right at home there. The lamp base was grey previously and I knew that I wanted my porch lamp to be a little flirty and fun, so I painted on two coats of the soft coral I'd used on my dining table chairs. I'd been saving this old fluted shade in the basement forever, so I began to rip the old fabric off the shade exposing the glorious wire cage. I was in LOVE. I ripped up scraps of some of my favorite fabrics and tied them randomly around the wire, and voila, my dream lamp was born.

I did a little more shopping in my 'bargain basement' and pulled out a very old Easter wreath and a little bunny I purchased years back.

And that does it for a little spring refresh that has our porch beckoning me in the afternoons already.

  1. You are so lucky to be able to get out on your porch and enjoy it. It is so cold here that we won't be able to do that for at least 6 more weeks. xo Diana

  3. Very pretty, I love the color you painted the lamp. And so nice to see the dogwood bloom. Everything here that had already bloomed out, was killed by the cold and frost that we had over the weekend. This was after being in the 70's just a few days before.

    1. Terri, don't you just hate it when that happens! My butterfly bushes had already begun to get new leaves, and that same cold snap you got, killed them all. Now they'll have to start all over again. Hopefully, that was our last freeze!

    1. Yep Judy, just a little knot top and bottom and you're good to go. This shade took me all of ten minutes to make including ripping off the previous fabric. Now that's my kind of craft!! Happy Easter!

  7. It looks fantastic. I love the lamp and the wreath, but my favorite is the robin egg blue little table. It looks adorable in front of the swing. Enjoy your spring!

  9. Boy did you ever inspire me with your gorgeous lamp, love that color. Your porch looks so sweet and homey. Nice to have a good sized porch. Ours is kinda small but big enuf to do little bit of decorating. Want to put my bakers rack back out there to put plants on, etc. Love decorating porch in Spring.
I have a lamp shade I tore fabric off of, been deliberating whether to put strung buttons, some beads or ? on it. Think your post finalized my choice, thank you very much. Is bit bigger lamp shade but who cares, will look pretty with some Spring fabric on it. Will also paint a lamp the coral as I have some coral in living room. I saw a lamp I liked at Goodwill, kind of art deco style, was thinking of painting it and put that shade on it. Hope it will look half as pretty as yours. Your dogwood is so pretty in that vase, it's all gorgeous.
We don't live in South but in western CO, it's been quite lovely here, 80 yesterday, only 77 today but so nice to have windows and doors open. I'm a fresh air nut, love having things open to air.
Not when wind blows like crazy however which is does out here. This has got to be the dustiest and dirtiest place to live but love anyway. Up on hill to overlook valley, can see for miles. Live about 18 miles west of Grand Junction, CO out in country. Hope you and yours have a spectacular Easter. Your front porch will be great place to spend some time.

  10. Love the new touches to your front porch, and especially the creative way of making an old lamp have a new life! Wow! So fun, and easy - a must try for sure! Now, I've got to go to my bargain basement and see if I can find a lamp that needs a makeover, lol! Have a blessed weekend!
