Getting To Know You {and me}

As I'm quickly approaching my one year 'blogiversary", it's occurred
to me that I've never really even properly introduced myself to you. I thought it would be fun to share some facts about myself that you may not know. By the end, you'll know waaaaay more about me than you ever wanted- wink, wink!!

  • I absolutely, positively hated school even though I got good grades
  • I dreamed of being a hairdresser, then a singer and then just rich
  • I had a guardian angel experience when I was nine {cue the theme song from The X-Files}
  • I am a serious INTROVERT
  • I have fought depression most of my life
  • I've been married 23 years
  • I'm an only child married to the youngest of ten {whoa, right?}
  • I didn't think that being an only child was all that cool- so my answer was to have FOUR awesome children!
  • We currently have five house dogs { I know, I know...........}
  • I only completed 3 years of college { school was always rough for me- the INTROVERT thing}
  • Food addiction: Mexican torta and fries. What? You don't know what that is?? {Sorry, I may have just contributed to your new addiction}
  • During my last pregnancy, I developed pre-eclampsia at 26 weeks and was hospitalized until Matthew was born at 29 weeks
  • This should be an obvious one........ I developed severe postpartum depression after Matthew was born {duh, right?}
  • We've homeschooled for 16 years
  • My oldest child is 22 , then 14, then 12, then 7.  {two boys, two girls}
  • My favorite quiet time splurge, a nap
  • I'm totally smitten with oil cloth
  • I'm obsessed with campers, so much so, that when driving ANYWHERE whenever we pass one, Matthew YELLS, "camper mommy"
  • I have a tiny but growing quilt collection
  • My favorite date night with my hubby- Chinese and a movie IN bed {thanks Jessica!}

Whoa, more than you wanted to know right? Your turn! I'd love for you to share a tidbit or two about yourself. Go.............

  5. I'm from Québec (my main language is french), I live (and work!) with my boyfriend of the last ten years, as well as with our three cats. I always hated winter too, but I started loving it this year because I developped an allergy to mold and cold kills spores in the air outside. Wanna love winter? Get allergies haha

  6. *I can't stand sausage. I think it smells good when cooking, but hate the taste.
    *I didn't become a mom until I was 36. Thanks to the miracle of adoption.
    *I am legally blind in my left eye since birth.
    *I love all things home... cooking, cleaning, decorating.

  8. Such a pleasure to get to know you! I am a mother to five sons, the youngest graduating college in the spring. My husband and I are growing accustomed to our empty nest. I currently work full time but dream of traveling more and painting in my studio.

  9. I'm a mom of five, the last two are twins.
    I'm a speech pathologist by degree, but my passion is anything creative.
    I love people and talking, but I MUST have time by myself to recharge.
    I don't think I've ever been bored as long as I have a book or project to think about! :)

  11. I typed, and didn't realize just how much I had actually put! *sheesh*

    I love this!!!! I think I will be making new friends after seeing others' responses above/below. Let's see...

    * I was diagnosed pre-eclampsia at 24 weeks, but was able to hold that boy in until 35 weeks. I'm a crafty person, but he is by FAR the coolest thing I've ever made.

    * I've known my husband since we were young kids, and were the best of friends through high school and college. But, we were idiots and chose to ignore God's plan (unless our family now is how God planned it - I'm never sure how that works...). When he was going through his divorce, he lived with my brother, a stone's throw from me (the next apartment building).
    * I'm the stepmom of two boys, 8 & 10. Being a stepmom is without a doubt the HARDEST job I've ever known.
    * Fabrics that are fleece, plush - all of those things you think are "soft and squishy," feel GROSS to me. It feels like slimy mold. Give me a scratchy wool or old-fashion cotton any day! I think it's really just that I'm overly tactile, and those feel manufactured to me.

    * I had a massive stash of fabric years before I learned to sew. I just always loved the idea of learning to sew.

    * I HATE the color purple. And, I truly mean hate it. I can't use it in my crafting at all - It makes me angry. Our home has ONE item that is purple in it - and that's a basket that my baby brother made for me when he was in Kindergarten (she just turned 29 last week).

    * I'm the oldest of four, and I talk to at least one member of my family every single day. Mostly by text now, but connect, nonetheless.

    1. First, congratulations on holding that little one in till 35 weeks! Having one at 29 weeks was the toughest thing my husband and I ever had to do especially factoring in that we already had three younger ones at home- translated, nightmare! I don't like purple too much now, but as a little girl, LOVED it! Thanks for stopping by!

  15. Hi Amy,

    This is so much fun!
    I loved "getting to know you" better:)

    My husband and I met almost 27 years ago in Honolulu, Hawaii when we were 18
    We will be married 17 years this July
    We have a 14 year old daughter and an 11 year old son
    Our two labs, Chipper and Macy are house dogs....and we absolutely love them
    This is our first year of homeschooling (unschooling)
    I am a former elementary school teacher
    Most definitely an introvert....I do like time with my close friends
    I love spending time with my mom, aunt, grandma, sister and kids
    I am growing in my faith.... I became a believer 8 years ago
    Spending time rearranging or "feathering" our nest is a favorite of mine
    journaling
    coffee, tea, and chocolate
    as i get older.....being outdoors in nature speaks to my heart

    xoxo

  16. -I'm a leftie.
    -Like Yolanda I too married someone with the same last name. Not that I *had* to change my last name when marrying, but it was nice not to bother with paperwork or adapting to signing a different last name.
    -My hubby and I started dating at 17; we've been together for 21 years and married for 14 of those.
    -I never thought I'd ever, ever, EVER move from my hometown, but thanks to the Coast Guard and my amazing husband we've now lived in 5 states and are headed to a 6th this June. (this still blows my mind)
    -I'm a creature of habit, major introvert, and get anxious if the phone rings. I hate, hate talking on the phone.
    -Amy is my cousin-by-marriage and I remember seeing her oldest when he was a wee bebe. Time flies!
    -People who fidget make me anxious. My husband is a fidgeter. ;o) lol
    -I adore coffee, but a few years ago I developed a sensitivity to caffeine so now I only have one cup a day and the occasional second of decaf.
    -I'm a crafty procrastinator. I love doing crafty things, but most of the time it takes me AGES to actually start on anything.
