I Fell Off The Christmas Wagon

I've fallen off the wagon! I planned a peaceful, simple, not-over-the-top Christmas, and do you know what happened? I crashed. But then, it's what I did next that's even crazier, y'all, I took C-O-N-T-R-O-L. Oh, yes I did!

Being simple and intentional is HARD! It really is. The world works against us so diligently. The world pushes all the glitter and tinsel and jiggling dancing Santa's at us, and remembering the why's of Christmas begins to get all blurry and the lines get all undefined and fuzzy. I went to bed last night feeling all uncomfortable and antsy feeling and nearly claustrophobic with ALL this Christmas stuff I'd been unpacking and decorating with and I looked over at my husband and said, " I hope you're not going to think I've gone totally mad, when you come home from work tomorrow and I've taken down lots of this Christmas stuff that I've JUST finished putting up". Being the sweetheart that he is, he said, "nope, if you're happy, I'm happy". Love that man.

When I awoke the next morning, I went to work, and with each piece I packed away, I could feel myself feeling calmer and less claustrophobic and joyful, totally nutty, but yes, joyful. I'm crazy like that, but I started out knowing that a simple Christmas was on the menu for this year, and doggonit, a simple one it's going to be. We all mess up sometimes, and you know what, it's okay, just back up and start again. I'm so much happier today than I was yesterday. It feels so good to be able to say Christmas and peaceful in the same sentence. Now, I'm back on track and with lots of prayer, I plan on staying that way!

  1. Amen girl!! A friend of mine once gave the advice that life is like driving a semi truck-- if it ain't goin in gear, sometimes you gotta drop back to 1st gear and start over. Good for you :) I can't wait to see what your simple, peaceful Christmas looks like! Mine may end up being nothing but the small 1950's ceramic tree with the colored "bulbs" that sit in the holes...! And I'm ok with that!! Have a terrific Tuesday!
